Congratulations Emily and Good Luck At Princeton!
Congratulations to our student, Emily Ward, who graduated today! The department awarded her the Joseph B. Schwartzkopf award, the highest award for a graduating undergraduate student during the ceremony. During her stay at IU she started off doing experiment in Sara Skrabalak’s group, quickly getting to leading her own synthesis project, then in only two years made a strong impact in the theory of materials when she joined my group. She led her own work -including a highly technical published manuscript which led to the first visualization of lone pairs in a solid using Wannier functions and tools to understand bonding via the resulting Hamiltonian. Her curiosity, drive and also kindness towards other group members will be missed. I’ve learned a lot from her over the past two years. Good luck at Princeton Emily!
